La Vie En Rose

I used to dislike pink, in fact, hate might not be too strong a word in this case, or at least a healthy sense of disgust with the color. I started out my life as a young adult with the need to emphasize the masculine in me: to be strong in a way that is almost invulnerable, and a self-sufficient doer. There were good reasons for that. With the passage of time though, that survival strategy has become less of a necessity and more of a barrier to knowing myself.

“La vie en rose” is French for "life in pink." It essentially means seeing life through rose-colored glasses. Living with an attitude or outlook of positivity, trying to see beauty in the everyday; like you do when you first fall in Love. Pink in nature isn’t necessarily an everyday color. It’s beauty ranges in tones from soft to fiercely saturated.

As I age, I find I am embracing the French side of myself, this perspective on life, and this femininity of the color rose. As I have done the work to become more self-content, my resting state, rather than the agitation and moodiness in my youth, has become one of happiness and gratitude for this life. Life is not without its challenges, but the baseline is now contentment. And I’m aware that is a luxury not everyone gets to experience. In that vein, I am pulled more and more to photographing during the pink minutes, that time around dawn and dusk when Venus’ soft rose-colored belt appears on the horizon, embracing the entirety of earth and overlaying a rose hue across the landscape,

This collection is a tribute to embracing a life in pink and that complete, soft, receiving, passionate, self that notices the beauty of the unfolding feminine in the everyday.
