This book started out as simple admiration for wildflowers and nature and a desire to be able to know and photograph them well. That soon turned into a passion project and then an all-consuming undertaking. I’ve been working on this guide book for quite some time now, criss-crossing the state to hike hundreds of miles of trails. Learning the names of our unique wildflowers and experiencing their habitats has been a wondrous pursuit. It's my hope this book serves a resource and inspiration to all those who are interested in gaining a deeper connection to nature by getting to know more intimately the captivating beauty of New Mexico. I’m excited to share it with you.

About the Author
Even as a young child growing up in Wisconsin I was drawn to wildflowers. I remember spending summer days wandering through tall grass prairie admiring their color and form. I will never forget that breath-taking moment in college when biking along the Mississippi river, thousands of monarch butterflies rose from a field of head-high flowers and landed back down on my arms, chest, and head as if I myself was a wildflower. I was overwhelmed with a sense of peace and a feeling of being part of something greater. As an adult, photographing, studying, visiting, and naming wildflowers has maintained my connection with nature and allowed me to experience the stunning beauty of places in a deeper way. This book project has afforded me the opportunity to meet hundreds of wildflowers and view them as cherished friends. I have visited nearly every corner of New Mexico where I now call home. Over several seasons I have also seen changes in the ecosystems where they live. I'm working to reciprocate the beauty and transcendent moments they've brought to my life by sharing their story and protecting their habitats. On that front, I'm just getting started. I look forward to sharing this passion, study, connection, and care with you.
