America’s First Wilderness

In the world's first designated wilderness, the Gila, scientists and managers are working to save endangered species and keep ecosystems functioning. Mega-wildfires, military fly-overs, and proposals to dam the Gila River (the last free-flowering river in the lower 48) all threaten to alter the solitude and uniqueness that keeps this place wild. From Mexican wolves to rare orchids, the Gila is full of unique and interesting species. Many groups are working to preserve the beauty and wildness of this area. This is an on-going photography project for me, I return year after year to continue documenting conservation efforts and capture the beauty of this special place.
